This special issue of GCP News celebrates International Women's Day tomorrow, with a detailed focus on women in science whose lives and work inspire change around them. We get up close and personal with a few GCP women science leaders. Few they are, but they bring a broad perspective from all around the world; working on cereals, legumes and root crops, using a variety of molecular-breeding methods, slick data management skills and the latest tools and technology. We learn how they cleared the hurdles of the science education marathon to the finishing line while others fell by the wayside, and all this, whilst balancing work, life and family.
