Generation Challenge Programme GCP’s mission is using genetic diversity and advanced plant science to improve crops by adding value to breeding for drought-prone and harsh environments. This is achieved through a network of more than 200 partners drawn from CGIAR Centres, academia, regional and national research programmes, and capacity enhancement to assist developing-world researchers to access technologies and to tap into a broader and richer pool of plant genetic diversity. http://generationcp.org/component/content/?view=featured Mon, 24 Jun 2019 21:14:10 -0500 Joomla! - Open Source Content Management en-gb Capacity-building multimedia channel http://generationcp.org/37-research/research-themes/593-cb-multi-media-channel http://generationcp.org/37-research/research-themes/593-cb-multi-media-channel

Episode 1.3 – Gaps and challenges: The common ones

GCP’s Xavier Delannay discusses key challenges and gaps which were common to many of the African research sites visited by GCP Consultant, Hannibal Muhtar. Xavier lists limited human and infrastructure resources, as well as a clear need to build capacity of research staff on the ground, targeting courses in the local language where possible, and, critically, the need to ensure the sustainable continuation of these investments long after GCP disengages.

Episode 1 – A nuts-and-bolts approach to local capacity empowerment – Infrastructure and training

GCP’s Xavier Delannay talks about the benefits being enjoyed by researchers and local communities in sub-Saharan Africa, thanks to GCP investments in field and lab infrastructure, equipment, and related support services.
